Prof.
David Gann holds the IMI/Royal Academy of Engineering
Chair in Innovative Manufacturing, carrying out research
in housing, construction and other project-based industries.
He is Professor of Technology Policy at SPRU - Science
and Technology Policy Research, University of Sussex,
where he leads the Programme on Innovation in the Built
Environment. He is a Visiting Professor to the Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of
Southampton, and a Visiting Fellow of the National Graduate
School of Management, Australian National University.
His work focuses on the management of technology and innovation
in project-based firms, process innovation in engineering,
design and construction, the design process and measurement
of design quality and innovation in housing. David has
worked extensively with the Department of the Environment,
Transport and the Regions and has provided advice to industry,
governments and agencies such as the OECD on policies
for innovation and technical development. He previously
worked as director of a construction firm and two consultancy
companies as well as a local authority housing surveyor.
Dr Ammon Salter is a Research Fellow in SPRU and has been
involved in a number of government science and technology
policy studies, including a review of the economic benefits
of basic research for the UK Treasury. He has just working
on the EPSRC/IMI funded project on mapping, measuring
and managing innovation in project-based organisations.
As part of his work with the project-based organisations,
he has worked closely with several leading UK-based firms,
helping them to develop new tools and techniques to understand
the innovation process within their organisations. He
is involved in a wide range of different research projects
sponsored by the European Commission, the Ove Arup Foundation,
the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (CVCP),
the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE),
and the Government of Ontario in Canada.
